Japanese Culture on Stage
Swords, fans, and beautiful kimono create a compact showcase of Japanese culture.

Highlight: Onnagata (Male Actors Playing Female Roles)

Long ago, women were not allowed to perform on stage in Japan.
Because of this, male actors began playing female roles.

This tradition is called Onnagata.

Onnagata actors master graceful movements, delicate expressions, and elegant gestures while wearing kimono to portray an idealized form of femininity unique to Japanese theater.
